The Barron Public Library is seeking a dedicated, energetic, self-motivated, and community minded full-time Director with a commitment to public service and a vision for the future.
About Us: The Barron Public Library has a rich history in the Barron Area starting in 1907, building a Carnegie Library Building in 1913, serving and growing with Barron in an expansion of the building in 1998. The library serves a community of about 3500, and is located about an hour north of Eau Claire. Barron is the county seat of Barron County in the heart of the Northern Wisconsin tourism area. The Barron Public Library is part of the MORE Consortium in the IFLS Library system. Barron works with over 50 other libraries as it provides excellent access to many materials for patrons in the Barron and surrounding areas. The staff consists of the Director, an FTE Assistant Director, and 9 PTE members who are dedicated to providing the best customer service to the community.
This position requires an MLS from an ALA-accredited university and eligibility for a Grade 2 Library Director certification from the State of Wisconsin. One or two years of experience in a public library setting and experience in supervising personnel is preferred. A knowledge of principles and practices of Library Science, knowledge of supervisory and personnel management, and experience in budget development and administration is also preferred.
The Library Director reports to a seven-member Board of Trustees and is responsible for the overall management of the library. Responsibilities include: long range planning, budget and policy development, financial management, management of all library resources, coordination with the IFLS and MORE library systems to promote and improve consistent service, community outreach, supervision of all staff (employees and volunteers), and oversight of the library facility.
