April 8-12, 2019 is the Week of the Young Child! This is an annual celebration highlighting the importance of “high-quality learning, and the critical role early childhood educators play in a child’s development and learning.”

You may already have a plan for this year, or celebrate WOYC every year. Take a few minutes to reflect on the purpose of WOYC and evaluate how your library could celebrate and communicate the importance of early learning with your community.

Ways to Acknowledge WOYC:

  • Programs: incorporate the WOYC into your regular storytime, put out a passive program (Talk, Read, Sing, Play) with WOYC informational pieces
  • Displays: create a display highlighting early learning professionals (daycare providers, teachers, paraprofessionals, youth clubs, etc.) with a few thank you phrases and information on WOYC
  • Social Media: share social media posts thanking and tagging your early childhood educator collaborators (Headstart, daycares, pre-K, family and social services)
  • And, most importantly, say thank you. Thank your collaborators with a hand-written note, social media share, press-release or a small treat (everyone likes chocolate)
